MOSCOW Iran's Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi cabled on Tuesday a message to his Russian counterpart Yevgeny Primakov to draw his attention to resumption of conflicts in the sensitive region of Tajikistan, underlining the need to consolidate mutual confidence between Tajik forces. The Iranian minister underscored the importance of implementing all accords reached during Tajik peace negotiations as a basis for establishment of a lasting peace in that war-torn country.

Referring to the constructive role of Iran and Russian Federation in ensuring the success of the Tajik peace talks, Kharrazi expressed Iran's readiness to follow its cooperation with Russia in this regard given the mandates of both countries as guarantors of the Tajik peace accord. Kharrazi also expressed hope that Tehran-Moscow relations would continue to expand in the future. The message was handed by Iranian Ambassador Mehdi Safari to the Russian first deputy foreign minister on Tuesday. (IRNA)
